The EU regional Social Progress Index (EU-SPI) aims to measure social progress for EU regions as a complement to traditional measures of economic progress, such as the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The index follows the overall framework of the global Social Progress Index and is based on 53 socio-economic and environmental indicators, using twelve components that are further aggregated into three broader dimensions describing respectively basic, intermediate, and more subtle aspects of social progress.
The SPI is presented on interactive maps and charts, indexes can be compared between EU regions.

The EU Social Progress Index (EU-SPI) is a measure of societal development and quality of life at the regional level that goes beyond the Gross Domestic Product. The Index measures social progress in European regions, at the NUTS2 level, using twelve components described by a total number of fifty-five comparable social and environmental indicators, purposefully excluding economic aspects. Its components are further aggregated into three broader dimensions describing respectively basic, intermediate and more sophisticated aspects of social progress.
